Not only the small but also the great make caprices. Since the eighteenth century, great Venetian artists have enjoyed depicting plausible yet invented landscapes, among ancient ruins and assembled buildings. This short guide to the Venice that does not exist offers young readers a new, more conscious way of observing the surrounding reality. Starting from the caprices preserved in the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice, the project shows how an image can always be the result of a construction.
